In Oregon*, the Dart
Electrics you still ride like a bike, following the same
rules of the road as a bicycle would. It is rated by the manufacturer as a 300 watt nominal
motor (although I think it's a bit higher, it is certainly
not over 1000) and it's top speed is about 18 miles per
hour. With it's peddles installed, you can be
considered a bicycle and can go on bike trails (though it's not been "tested" yet
with the Parks and Recreation Department), and off street park roads, like the
Spring Water Corridor; although you may be estranged to
the other bicyclists who may be "purists", but are
not right when it comes to where you are suppose to be. You may be stopped by the local
cops until they realize you are electric and you show them a
copy of your Invoice, and the Oregon Laws cheat sheet,
simply because of the large body shell on it. However, it's
rather like a kitten with fluffy fur - get it wet and you
are shocked at how little there actually is. Yet, the
larger shell provides an attractive look and make them
easier to spot, making it safer - in our opinion.
